Commodore 64 Cassettes

Tape For The Commodore 64Ahh, Commodore 64 Casettes. They bring back memories! Originally, the Commodore 64 was bundled with a tape drive, which allowed the lowest selling price. A lot of games, and software came on tape, and it was an easy way to load programs into the C64. The only problem was speed.

A program would often take 20 minutes to load, so often people would start the loading process and go off, watch some TV, make something to eat, and come back later. Often, tape loading programs would have brightly coloured flashing screens, indicating a fast load process. Still, it was a long wait. Those who had a bit more cash to spare often upgraded to a 1541 Floppy Disk Drive, and cut load time by a factor of 10!

Still, there's loads of software & games available in tape format for the C64. Check out some C64 Tapes below. If you can't find what you're looking for, use the search box above on the left.
